How Can it be Wrong when it Looks so Right?

If you knit in the combination style chances are at some point in your life another experienced knitter has told you that you are knitting the wrong way. This blog looks at the combination style of knitting and discusses techniques of this very legitimate form of knitting.

Help for Combination Knitters

Definitions of terms
  • Combination Knitter - uses the combination or eastern uncrossed style of knitting.
  • Western Knitter - uses the English or continental style of knitting (vast majority of knitters)

Since the majority of knitters in Western Europe and North America use the western style of knitting you can be assured that if you have a published pattern it has not been constructed with you in mind.  In fact I've yet to see a single pattern in North America with instructions for  combination knitters.

The main thing to remember that if you are a combination knitter your stitches are upside down and backwards (at least from the perspective of western knitters).  Keeping that in mind your increases and decreases will slant in the opposite direction of  western knitters.

For Example:

If a Western Pattern Says                                                   Then a Combination Knitter does
